American Airlines Business ExtrAA Program

A few months ago, Gary from View From The Wing had posted an offer through AA's Business ExtrAA program for Free American Airlines Gold Status after only one round trip flight.
Although I typically don't fly AA unless it is on an Award Ticket, I do own a business and it was hard to pass up such an awesome offer, so I signed up for the program!
For those of you not familiar with American Airline's Business ExtrAA program, essentially it is a loyalty program for Small Businesses. AA wants Small Businesses to fly exclusively with them. In exchange for that loyalty, AA gives the company "points" based on how much revenue they spend. The company can then use these "points" for free flights for their employees or other perks. These "points" are on top of any miles that the employees earn for flying AA, so it is a win-win for both employees and the employers.
The cool thing about Business ExtrAA is that you don't even have to be a business to sign up. So if you ever fly AA, I strongly suggest you sign up below so you can earn even more miles when you book your flights.
"As a Business ExtrAA member, your company may earn Business ExtrAA points each time you fly on American Airlines, American Eagle® or AmericanConnection® carriers using an eligible ticket. Your company will receive one point for each $10 you spend to fly on published fares during the month. Your company will earn double credit for every eligible itinerary that originates from one of over 200 airports [excludes Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) and Miami (MIA)]. American will calculate your company's flown revenue to determine the number of points to be placed into your company's Business ExtrAA account. There is no limit to the number of points your company can earn! "
I found an 500 point offer for signing up with Business ExtrAA. If that link below doesn't work, try using code FLYAA. 500 points is the equivalent of 6,250 free miles! If you have a better sign up offer, please leave a comment.

2,000 "points" = AA Round Trip Saver Award Ticket, so doing this promotion will get me 1,000 "points" which is half way to a free Domestic Saver Ticket.
Also the "points" earned via Business ExtrAA can be redeemed for Flight Upgrades, Admiral Club Memberships, and even Gold Status for 2,400 points.
The offer is "targeted" but there is no code mentioned or a unique link, so I am fairly certain this is open to anyone. Link is below for the 1,000 point offer.

Signing up will get you 1/4 the way to a free ticket (500/2000 points), right? Not 1/2?
If you're 1500 points away from a free ticket and you only get 1 point for every $10, that means you have to spend $15000 in airfare? (or $7500 if you're flying from one of the 2x points airports). Do you even pay that much regularly, or are you always using points/miles?
Great question Jake! Your math is correct in that it would take a large amount of money to earn 1500 points the traditional way. However Business ExtrAA typically does have a lot of these promos. You pick up 500 points for signing up, 1000 from the email promo, and you are 3/4 of the way there while only spending maybe $5.

I signed up but to use any of the features or promos it says I have to be a registered travel manager?
There should be a feature to do that once you are logged in.
Where does it say you have to spend $5 to to earn the 1,000 bonus points? The link just says “To qualify for this bonus point offer, you must complete a qualifying purchase with VerticalResponse between January 26, 2012 and May 31, 2012″ I do not see where qualifying purchase is explained. I do see you can purchase less than $5 in email credits though

Can you explain a little bit more? I've signed up, logged in, but still don't see
a. where it says "$5 to to earn the 1,000 bonus points?"
b. what's considered "qualifying purchase?" It looks like buying 350 email credits needs $5.25, is this a qualified purchase?
It doesn't say that on the page. It said it in the email that I received. It said you have to spend a minimum of $5 to receive the 1,000 bonus miles. Anything above $5 should be considered a qualifying purchase to get the 1,000 points.
